I'm also using the HGEC body replacement mod to make the female bodies more attractive (I can't find one that does the same for male bodies, which is a shame. Elven Map Redux makes the in-game map prettier, and combines really well with Map Markers Overhaul, which gives it more functionality. The vanilla one looks horrible IMHO) it's totally compatible with Oblivion XP, which is nice. Other mods I'm using: the DarNiFied UI mod to greatly improve the game's on-screen information presentation (including using a smaller font for conversations. the Oblivion Mod Manager will make your life easier, and some mods (including Oblivion XP) won't work at all without the Oblivion Script Extender, so you should probably get that. Mind you, to use that and other mods you'll need a couple of utilities.
It changes the game so much! Now I can truly play the way I want, without being penalized by it. I've been playing the PC version, with this mod installed, for weeks now - and I would never, ever even consider to going back to the standard leveling system. This mod changes it to a less flavourful, but eminently more playable system: you get XP for (above all) quests completed, enemies killed and many other minor things such as locks picked or Nirnroots collected once you have enough XP, you level up and are free to distribute points between your attributes and skills as you see fit (different skills cost more or less to improve, depending on your character creation choices at the beginning of the game). The execution, though, is extremely flawed, forcing the player to micromanage their skills, attributes and overall level advancements in order to stay ahead of the "level curve"). After playing Oblivion extensively in the Xbox 360, I ended up abandoning it because of the standard leveling system, which is unbelievably abhorrent (the basic idea of "improve your skills by using them" is great.
